From North to South
Olbia
Day 1
Olbia-Arbatax - 221km
Today you will venture into the heart of Sardinia, passing through Alà dei Sardi, Buddusò, Bitti, and finally Oliena, reaching one of the island’s most important restaurants: nestled in greenery at the foot of the Gennargentu mountain range, the restaurant "Su Gologone" will offer you a unique food and wine experience in a historic, cultural, and natural setting of the highest level. You can also visit the Su Gologone spring just a few steps from the restaurant.
The lunch will be abundant, and in the afternoon there’s still a long way to go! You will find yourself on the most beautiful stretch of the SS 125 Orientale Sarda, the one that connects Dorgali to Tortolì. The mountains, the Su Gorroppu gorge, and the landscapes of this unspoiled corner of Sardinia will give you intense emotions.
Day 2
Arbatax-Cagliari - 188km
From Arbatax, head south towards Muravera and Costa Rei. In this area, you can see and visit some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, kissed by a sea that ranges from emerald green to sky blue. Once you arrive in Villasimius, take the beautiful coastal road that leads all the way to Cagliari, the island’s capital. For lunch, we recommend “Il Frontemare,” a cozy seafood restaurant at Poetto, the city’s vast beach. In the afternoon, you can explore the elegant city by strolling through the historic center and climbing up to the castle with its panoramic terrace overlooking the gulf.
Day 3
Cagliari-Portu Maga - 260km
Head southwest towards Pula. Along the way, don’t miss the “Baia Chia” beach, one of the most beautiful in Sardinia! Continue towards the island of Carloforte, a former Genoese colony where, even today, Ligurian traditions— including the Genoese dialect and tuna fishing—are still very much alive. Here you can visit the small town with its seafront and make a full tour of the island, enjoying breathtaking sea views.
Once back on the mainland, continue towards Masua, crossing the entire Sulcis-Iglesiente province, a mining area rich in abandoned quarries, currently one of the poorest regions on the island. Upon arriving in Masua, along the coastal road, you’ll be amazed to see a huge sea stack called the “Pan di Zucchero” (Sugarloaf), named for the very light color of the rock it’s made of.
We recommend a guided tour of Porto Flavia, a cliffside mine overlooking the sea that will leave you speechless. After a quick lunch, reach Portu Maga for the night. But the day’s surprises are not over yet—you’re just a few steps from Piscinas, the largest natural desert in Europe. With its tall white sand dunes facing a crystal-clear sea, it’s one of the most magical places on the island. Don’t worry—feeling overwhelmed is the least that can happen to you!
Day 4
Portu Maga-Alghero - 233km
Today you will head north toward Torre dei Corsari, where sandy deserts and panoramic views are the main features of this area. You will arrive in the warm plains of Oristano, driving through vast rice fields and dairy farms. Looking for some curves, you’ll push on toward central Sardinia, passing through the towns of Samugheo, Santulussurgiu, and Cuglieri, before reaching Bosa, a renowned fishing village famous for its canal port and medieval castle.
In the afternoon, you’ll experience one of the highlights of your trip by driving along the coastal route that will take you to Alghero, the capital of the Coral Riviera. The Alghero-Bosa coastline road, nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage site, is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Its 53 km of curves running along the sea that connects Nurra to Logudoro will impress you not only for the quality of the driving route but also for its scents and colors.
Once you arrive in Alghero, a breathtaking aperitif at the Riservato Beach Bar is a must. Only after watching the sun set over the sea, lose yourself in the narrow streets of the historic center where you’ll find a wide choice of traditional restaurants. Among these, we recommend “La Bifora,” located on the bastions overlooking the marina.
Day 5
Alghero-Olbia - 239km
Head towards the Capocaccia promontory, from where you can visit the beautiful viewpoint overlooking the island of “Foradada” to the west and the Porto Conte bay to the east. From here, you can also enjoy the evocative skyline of the fortified city of Alghero. Continue north towards Stintino, where you can visit “La Pelosa” beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for its crystal-clear water and fine sand. The next stop is Castelsardo: cross the entire pine forest of Marina di Sorso to then reach the coastal road leading to the beautiful medieval village; we recommend visiting the castle followed by lunch at the restaurant “L’incantu,” accompanied by the splendid view that characterizes it. After lunch, leave the sea behind and head towards Olbia through the inland: here you will pass through the towns of Perfugas, Tempio, and Calangianus, connected by winding roads immersed in cork oak woods, one of the distinctive features of Gallura.
