A thousand colors
Olbia
Day 1
Olbia-Arbatax - 221km
Today you will venture into the heart of Sardinia, passing through Alà dei Sardi, Buddusò, Bitti, and finally Oliena, reaching one of the island’s most important restaurants: nestled in greenery at the foot of the Gennargentu mountain range, the restaurant "Su Gologone" will offer you a unique food and wine experience in a historic, cultural, and natural setting of the highest level. You can also visit the Su Gologone spring just a few steps from the restaurant.
The lunch will be abundant, and in the afternoon there’s still a long way to go! You will find yourself on the most beautiful stretch of the SS 125 Orientale Sarda, the one that connects Dorgali to Tortolì. The mountains, the Su Gorroppu gorge, and the landscapes of this unspoiled corner of Sardinia will give you intense emotions.
Day 2
Arbatax-Arbatax - 229km
Wild landscapes, forests, panoramas, and lots and lots of curves will be the protagonists of this beautiful day among the mountains of the Gennargentu. Today’s itinerary will allow you to discover some of the most beautiful places on the island, traveling on roads that seem tailor-made for motorcyclists.
Start the tour by passing through Tonara, a mountain village where torrone is produced: a typical Sardinian sweet made from a mixture of almonds, walnuts, and honey.
Next, reach Aritzo, a village nestled in the woods, known as the chestnut production capital.
In the afternoon, continue eastward to return toward Arbatax, passing through Gairo Vecchia, a picturesque abandoned village at the foot of a landslide-prone mountain.
Day 3
Arbatax-Cagliari - 188km
From Arbatax, head south toward Muravera and Costa Rei. In this area, you can see and visit some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, kissed by a sea that shifts between emerald green and sky blue. Once you arrive in Villasimius, take the beautiful coastal road that leads all the way to Cagliari, the island’s capital.
For lunch, we recommend “Il Frontemare,” a seafood restaurant at Poetto, the city’s vast beach. In the afternoon, you can explore the elegant city by strolling through the historic center and climbing up to the castle with its panoramic viewpoint overlooking the gulf.
Day 4
Cagliari-Portu Maga - 260km
Head southwest towards Pula. Along the way, don’t miss Baia Chia beach, one of the most beautiful in Sardinia! Continue towards the island of Carloforte, a former Genoese colony where Ligurian traditions— including the Genoese dialect and tuna fishing—are still very much alive. Here you can visit the small town center with its seaside promenade and make a full tour of the island, enjoying fabulous sea views.
Once back on the mainland, continue towards Masua, crossing the entire Sulcis-Iglesiente province, a mining area rich in abandoned quarries, currently one of the poorest areas on the island. Upon arrival in Masua, along the coastal road, you’ll be amazed to see a huge sea stack called the Pan di Zucchero, named for the very light color of the rock it’s made of. We recommend a guided tour of Porto Flavia, a cliffside mine overlooking the sea that will leave you speechless.
After a quick lunch, reach Portu Maga for the night. But the day’s surprises aren’t over yet—you’re just steps away from Piscinas, Europe’s largest natural desert. With its high white sand dunes overlooking a crystal-clear sea, it’s one of the island’s most magical places. Don’t worry, feeling disoriented is the least of what can happen to you!
Day 5
Portu Maga-Alghero - 233km
Today you will head north toward Torre dei Corsari, where sand and desert-like landscapes dominate the area. You will arrive in the warm plains of Oristano, driving through vast rice fields and dairy farms. In search of some curves, you will push toward central Sardinia, passing through the towns of Samugheo, Santulussurgiu, and Cuglieri, before reaching Bosa, a renowned fishing village famous for its canal harbor and medieval castle.
In the afternoon, you will experience one of the highlights of your trip by driving along the coastal stretch that will lead you to Alghero, the capital of the Coral Riviera. The Alghero-Bosa coastal road, nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage site, is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world. These 53 km of curves running alongside the sea connecting the Nurra and Logudoro regions will impress you not only for the quality of the road but also for its scents and colors.
Once you arrive in Alghero, a breathtaking aperitif at the "Riservato Beach Bar" is a must. Only after watching the sun set over the sea should you lose yourself in the narrow streets of the historic center, where you’ll find a wide selection of traditional restaurants. Among these, we recommend “La Bifora,” located on the bastions overlooking the marina.
Day 6
Alghero-Olbia - 239km
Head towards the Capocaccia promontory, from where you can visit the beautiful viewpoint overlooking Foradada Island to the west and Porto Conte Bay to the east. From here, you can also enjoy the stunning skyline of the fortified city of Alghero.
Continue north towards Stintino, where you can visit La Pelosa beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for its crystal-clear water and fine sand.
The next stop is Castelsardo: cross the entire pine forest of Marina di Sorso, then reach the coastal road that leads to the beautiful medieval village. We recommend visiting the castle, followed by lunch at the restaurant “L’incantu,” accompanied by the splendid view that characterizes it.
After lunch, leave the coast and head inland towards Olbia: here you will pass through the towns of Perfugas, Tempio, and Calangianus, connected by winding roads surrounded by cork oak forests, one of the distinctive features of Gallura.
