Grand Tour Olbia II
Olbia
Day 1
Olbia-Arbatax - 221km
Today you will venture into the center of Sardinia, passing through Alà dei Sardi, Buddusò, Bitti, and finally Oliena, reaching one of the island’s most important restaurants: nestled in greenery at the foot of the Gennargentu mountain range, the restaurant "Su Gologone" will offer you a unique food and wine experience in a historical, cultural, and natural setting of the highest level. You will also be able to visit the Su Gologone spring just a few steps from the restaurant.
Lunch will be abundant, and in the afternoon, there is still a long way to go! You will find yourself on the most beautiful stretch of the SS 125 Orientale Sarda, the road that connects Dorgali to Tortolì. The mountains, the Su Gorroppu gorge, and the landscapes of this unspoiled corner of Sardinia will give you intense emotions.
Day 2
Arbatx-Arbatax - 229km
Wild landscapes, forests, panoramas, and lots and lots of curves will be the stars of this beautiful day among the mountains of the Gennargentu. Today’s itinerary will allow you to discover some of the most beautiful places on the island, traveling roads that seem tailor-made for motorcyclists.
Start the tour passing through Tonara, a mountain village known for producing torrone: a typical Sardinian sweet made from a mixture of almonds, walnuts, and honey. Next, reach Aritzo, a town immersed in woods and the chestnut production capital.
In the afternoon, continue eastward to return toward Arbatax, passing through Gairo Vecchia, a hauntingly beautiful abandoned village at the foot of a landsliding mountain.
Day 3
Arbatax-Cagliari - 188km
From Arbatax, head south towards Muravera and Costa Rei. In this area, you can see and visit some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, kissed by waters ranging from emerald green to sky blue. Once you arrive in Villasimius, take the beautiful coastal road that leads all the way to Cagliari, the island’s capital. For lunch, we recommend “Il Frontemare,” a cozy seafood restaurant at Poetto, the city’s vast beach. In the afternoon, you can explore the elegant city by strolling through the historic center and climbing up to the castle with its lookout point overlooking the gulf.
Day 4
Cagliari-Cagliari - 254km
You’ll start right away with the first stretch of the Strada Statale 125 Orientale Sarda, which connects Cagliari to Santa Teresa. The southernmost part of this fantastic road, around Burcei, is truly unique because within just a few kilometers the scenery around you changes rapidly, making you feel like you’re inside an American canyon.
Once you pass Muravera, curves, beautiful roads, and fantastic panoramas will lead you to the Nuragic palace of Barumini: the largest Nuragic settlement dating back over 4,000 years. In this magical place, the guides will immerse you in the island’s oldest history and tell you about the life of Sardinia’s inhabitants—covering wars, religion, society, and customs.
After the visit, head back to Cagliari to enjoy a relaxing evening in Sardinia’s most elegant city
Day 5
Cagliari-Portu Maga - 260km
Head southwest towards Pula. Along the way, don’t miss Baia Chia beach, one of the most beautiful in Sardinia! Continue towards the island of Carloforte, a former Genoese colony where Ligurian traditions—including the Genoese dialect and tuna fishing—are still very much alive. Here you can visit the small town center with its seaside promenade and take a full tour around the island, enjoying stunning sea views.
Once back on the mainland, continue towards Masua, crossing the entire Sulcis-Iglesiente province, a mining area rich in abandoned quarries and currently one of the poorest regions on the island. Upon arrival in Masua, along the coastal road, you’ll be amazed to see a huge sea stack called the “Pan di Zucchero,” named after the very light color of the rock it’s made of. We recommend a guided tour of Porto Flavia, a cliffside mine overlooking the sea that will leave you speechless.
After a quick lunch, reach Portu Maga for the night. But the day’s surprises aren’t over yet—you’re just steps away from Piscinas, the largest natural desert in Europe. With its tall white sand dunes overlooking a crystal-clear sea, it’s one of the most magical places on the island. Don’t worry, feeling disoriented is the least that can happen to you!
Day 6
Portu Maga-Alghero - 233km
Today you will head north towards Torre dei Corsari, where sand and desert-like landscapes are the main features of this area. You will arrive in the warm plains of the Oristano region, driving through vast rice fields and dairy farms. Seeking some curves, you will push towards central Sardinia, passing through the towns of Samugheo, Santulussurgiu, and Cuglieri, before reaching Bosa, a renowned fishing village famous for its canal harbor and medieval castle, where you can have lunch.
In the afternoon, you will experience one of the highlights of your trip by driving along the coastal route that will take you to Alghero, the capital of the Coral Riviera. The Alghero-Bosa coastal road, nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage site, is considered one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Fifty-three kilometers of curves that run along the sea stretch connecting Nurra to Logudoro will impress you not only for the quality of the driving route but also for its scents and colors.
Once you arrive in Alghero, a breathtaking aperitif at the Riservato Beach Bar is a must. Only after watching the sun set over the sea should you wander through the narrow streets of the historic center, where you will find a wide choice of traditional restaurants. Among them, we recommend “La Bifora,” located on the ramparts overlooking the marina.
Day 7
Alghero-Olbia - 239km
Head towards the Capocaccia promontory, where you can visit the beautiful viewpoint overlooking the island of Foradada to the west and the bay of Porto Conte to the east. From here, you can also enjoy the stunning skyline of the fortified city of Alghero. Continue north towards Stintino, where you can visit La Pelosa beach, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world for its crystal-clear water and fine sand. The next stop is Castelsardo: cross the entire pine forest of Marina di Sorso to reach the coastal road leading to the beautiful medieval village. We recommend visiting the castle followed by lunch at the restaurant “L’incantu,” accompanied by the splendid view that characterizes it. After lunch, leave the sea behind and head towards Olbia through the interior: here you will pass through the towns of Perfugas, Tempio, and Calangianus, connected by winding roads surrounded by cork oak forests, one of the distinctive features of Gallura.
